One of the best aspects of being a power seller on StockX has long been the speed at which a Level 4 or 5 seller could reach out and work with their VIP Rep. The VIP Rep was critical to those moving weight. Let’s say a sneaker is unchecked because it was bought in bulk quantities. This sneaker sells and the seller catches the issue, the VIP Rep was only 15 minutes from getting that order cancelled and preventing any issues with a seller’s account. The new feature reads like it’s going to bolster the relationship between seller and the platform, but in reality, service by committee eventually slows down the process of communication.

StockX’s personally assigned VIP reps would show appreciation to sellers with gift boxes, celebrating milestones with tickets to NBA games, or shooting a power seller StockX apparel making the seller feel like family. It has long been one of the reasons many long-time eBay sellers jumped ship. With this latest announcement arrives a series of hoops to jump through in order to get something accomplished. Before a VIP seller only needed to drop their VIP a text or an e-mail to resolve an issue. StockX has just added friction comparable to the extended process of submitting a case to eBay or Amazon. Is this a sign of a slowing marketplace? Are previously assigned VIP Reps being reshuffled or are there impending layoffs on the horizon? Do you think the VIP program was fine the way it was, or will the PE Team actually make things more efficient?
