While students at Florida State and FAMU aren’t probably paying attention to what they are eating, they are definitely looking for restaurants and things to do that cater to the college experience. We hit up Island Wing Company on a weeknight just after the semester ended. This meant there weren’t any excited crowds and getting a table was as easy as walking in and choosing where we wanted to sit. I’m positive that the vibe here is bananas on a game day or when there is a major sporting event on television. IWC Tallahassee is easily one of the best bar and grill experiences in the country. The place has a massive bar and televisions galore around the space. The company even makes sure to take care of the kids with Cartoon Network stations on televisions at each booth station.
I began this post by saying that students may not be looking for healthier options, but for a growing chain IWC eliminates a major issue in eating out. They don’t fry any of their entrees. This means that the table turn isn’t as quick, so be patient. You aren’t going to get your meal in 12-15 minutes. The baking and grilling time increases the wait, but it is definitely worth it. The wings are very good and they don’t feel like they are weighing you down from oil. The menu has interesting side dishes and appetizers like Reggae and Jasmine Rice and a wild Ahi Poke Nachos. All of the drinks can be ordered virgin (sans alcohol) and I’m always appreciative of convenient payment features (you can check out at your table). If you’re in Tallahassee and it’s not a game night IWC is definitely a location for you to visit for that once-a-month family meal fix.
