Nike released the first sneaker featuring Colin Kaepernick’s likeness and what many have overlooked is the hidden message in the design elements. Of course the afro silhouette at the heel is there and the CK7 logo appears on the tongue with a leather 7 jersey hangtag, but it’s the insole and outsole where the shoe shines.
The outsole features the first date of his protest through a translucent outsole. The insole has a graphic that requires a bit of deciphering. Roses grow through a mask fracturing the white symbol. There is a fist that also shows through making the insole more of a statement than any other aspect of this shoe which raised a lot of criticism when it released.
