This is why Naomi moved from adidas to Nike. When I wrote that ‘long term Osaka would mean more to Nike than Beyonce to adidas’ I had no idea the marketing would begin almost immediately for Nike.
As the World Cheered for Beyonce x adidas, Nike Snatched Naomi Osaka away from the Three Stripes
While adidas has the excitement of the Beyonce signing, like their signing of Donald Glover, (which happened in September of 2018, but has just produced it’s first release of shoes and content with Glover this month in April 2019), as a working entertainer Beyonce’s focus is pulled in numerous directions. It would seem that her focus on adidas would be undercut by the 60 Million dollar deal she signed with Netflix.
Nike however has already begun to integrate Naomi into their marketing ecosystem and in an important region for the multinational athlete. Nike Japan’s Just Do It campaign has a fresh face and it’s a great ad.
