Natural phenomena are often associated with destructive occurrences in nature. A fire tornado, frost flower, or supercell creates awe-inspiring moments of nature showing both beauty and danger in one instance. I pre-ordered a sneaker from 99Products named the Carver. I had never seen the sneaker. The product imagery was intentionally pixelated.

Since we own four pair of sneakers from the brand, it was a no-brainer to order early at a discounted price. The sneaker doesn’t drop until after the 17th, but yesterday a natural phenomenon took place and I’m absolutely positive the brand didn’t realize the connection in honoring what is arguably the greatest album in Hip-Hop. 30 years ago the album Midnight Marauders released. It came on the heels of two amazing projects from A Tribe Called Quest.
99Products probably didn’t build the Carver Composite to honor ATCQ, but the fact that the reveal arrived on the day of an important celebratory moment for one of the golden age of Hip-Hops greatest albums, didn’t get lost on me. In my original post I stated that I would probably have an issue styling a sneaker that even in the pixelated images looked too colorful.
Now that I get the details in an unpixellated image and it arrived on a day to celebrate the LP that gave us Electric Relaxation and the legendary Oh My God and Award Tour (no skips on this album), I know exactly how I’ll style these. I already own the Stance Midnight Marauder’s socks, but there are other licensed options to pair with the Composite. This reveal actually forced me to pick up a Tri-Panel Marauders shirt from Okayplayer (which makes me want 99 to reach out to ATCQ and rename these kicks and add the ATCQ socks or gear to the 99 site… make that happen).
Natural Phenomenon are usually fierce instances captured on film and images to inspire awe, but sometimes it’s the recognition that a dope product is intrinsically tied to the culture by mistake or coincidence. Whatever the case, I’m looking forward to this delivery even more now.
