Tamberi edges USA’s Harrison for gold in epic men’s high jump duel at Worlds | NBC Sports – YouTube

NBC Sports broke down the high jump into a viewable segment for Peacock and followed up with a highlight reel of the pressure packed Men’s High Jump championships. (This is extremely important as the channel had been falling short in covering track and field events) The medal stand looked like an homage to eras as Barshim finished with the Bronze, although it was highly contested and came down to a miss by the Cuban Luis Zayas (wearing adidas spikes). Zayas almost channeled the spirit of Sotomayor (who was in the stands watching) but clipped the bar with his heel in a heartbreaking miss leaving Barshim as the sole heir of third in an unexpected outcome.

Tamberi had won a medal in every competition except the Worlds. Just last year Puma’s duo of Tamberi and Harrison fought it out in Doha for the Diamond League Championship and the youthful Harrison, and his unorthodox jumping style, left the Italian holding the silver. Tonight however, Tamberi was the only jumper to clear 2.36 on the first try nabbing him the only medal he had never attained throughout an amazing career, the Gold. Puma has a unique opportunity to highlight the power of flight, a tagline owned by Nike and Jordan Brand. While highflying is often seen as owned by hoops, the marvel of watching athletes soar over 7.74 feet, 2.36 meters (taller than the highly touted Victor Wembanyama of the NBA) is an exciting event. It’s even better when an amazing story is told.
