Red Ball Jets ’51 HI was originally released in 1951, “BALL-BAND had been making high-quality footwear in Mishawaka, Indiana for over 50 years when they launched their first “sport shoe” in 1951 — Red Ball Jets. Made alongside foam, adhesives, and rubber in the Mishawaka Woolen & Rubber Mfg. Co., the performance enhancing rubber sole and signature red dot set Red Ball Jets apart and earned them their status as a true original.”

I picked up a pair because I like getting sneakers that are different. While the immediate comparison is Converse and the Chuck Taylor, this sneaker features a toecap similar to a shell toe adidas with a cushioned drop in in-sole. The Red Ball Jets logo gives the model a distinctive look on the medial and at the heel, while the sole also carries the Red Ball to distinguish it immediately from the Chuck Taylor. It’s a quirky, fun sneaker that, in the right color, can be styled in an elevated way or simple and casual.
