It’s not surprising to see Saucony’s support of Black Girls Run. Saucony is under the same umbrella as Merrell with Wolverine Worldwide. I’ve documented Merrell’s support of the African American community on the site often. What is interesting here is Saucony picking up the slack on Black Girls Run when Brooks previously supported the program.

Why is this interesting and why am I not simply celebrating the support? What tends to happen for many companies is a certain program becomes prominent and that program garners interest, while other worthy programs are overlooked. It’s understandable. Establishing a non-profit doesn’t tend to be in the cards for many collectives. When people are making life changing decisions on health, they simply get started on making changes. They don’t organize. Brands prefer to support organizations who are documented vs delivering funding and support to individuals. It’s a complex situation. What isn’t complex is the light being shone on Black women by brands post Black History Month. Saucony took the time to speak with Jay Ell Alexander:
