Chef Sucre Cafe | (sucre-cafe.com)
Our son put us up on Sucre for very understandable reasons. University of Miami students get a discount on their meals and the food is fantastic. It’s never my intent to compare restaurants especially when they aren’t in the same category, but I couldn’t help but think about our trip to Pura Vida in Miami and our trip to Chef Sucre’s Cafe. It’s possibly the ambiance, because both places are uniquely Miami. Pura Vida has seen an explosion in locations so they are doing something right. I think it’s how replicable the process is, but if I’m being honest, it isn’t great. Chef Sucre, however, is a 10 on every account. The line was long and all the tables were filled, but the cafe has a system allowing it to flow.
The menu isn’t extensive, we went for breakfast, but it’s hard to choose. With menu titles that read: Breakfast all day, Foodie Cravings and Sucre’s Gourmet Sandwiches making a decision came down to doing what was safe in the moment. Choosing easy menu options didn’t disappoint. My daughter and I jumped on a daily special (I forgot to write down the name, but it felt like cinnamon roll with fresh fruit) and my son grabbed the special quesadilla… (It’s ridiculous that I didn’t write down the name of either item, smh). Think of the daily special menu items as a limited sneaker drop. It’s only available while it’s posted. My wife grabbed Sucre’s Skinny Breakfast (two egg white, spinach-tomato-goat cheese omelette, served with turkey sausage and a whole wheat french baguette toast). Service was fast and in such a small space Chef turned tables like a pro, but that’s to be expected with a background from Johnson & Wales and Le Cordon Bleu. Sucre Cafe is an easy 5 out of 5 and definitely worth visiting on your next trip to Miami.
