One of the biggest issues in track and field is the lack of coverage by various news platforms. With NBC Sports owning the rights, the proprietary issues surrounding who and what can be shared limits the reach of the sport. Luckily NBC Sports does an excellent job of delivering the digital experience to their YouTube station and in so doing they establish the potential of track and field viewership for events associated with the best athletes in the world. Brand sponsorship is the backbone of competition and it’s nice to see the companies making an effort to share info about their sponsored athletes who medal. If each brand can carry this coverage into a more developed content program track and field could begin to carry the same weight it does in the international space.
