Bricks & Wood – Bricks & Wood (bricksandwood.us)

Bricks & Wood is a company with no intention to crossover and capture all people with something built for everyone. Yet, their casual, calm colors, belie the work uniform, blue collar aesthetic that is for anyone. Whenever I get a notification of a drop from the brand, I immediately visit the site to check out how they are presenting the collection. I do so because each moment in their design undercuts the typical idea of what South Central L.A. is. The materials for their joggers tend to be soft fleece, as opposed to heavy denim, and starched khakis, creased like blades which anyone outside of L.A. associates with surviving South Central. Their tops are quiet staples, just a logo on one color in lavender and sage. The brand adds on accessories like tote bags and bucket hats, or even water bottles. Every item is carefully considered and then extended to the community.

Their lookbook is usually placed on Vimeo vs YouTube. This is an important aspect. The brand diminishes noise around their product this way. While YouTube is a vital component in marketing, a brand can get lost there and the digital consumption moves the eye away from the content. Vimeo offers a focused, clean layout allowing you to listen and watch as if you are attending a short fashion show. In this season’s video, there are only two moments when a vivid color is chosen: when the books are brought out and when the cactus is brought into the picture. The bright volt catches the eye in both instances. The Virgil Abloh.Nike.ICONS book, is immediately noticeable and is opposite a cactus, which is given a libation by the model in the clip. That subtle nod to the ancestors may go unnoticed by those not familiar with the tradition of honoring those who are no longer with us. Check out the collection in the video and use the source link to visit Bricks & Wood.
