Visited Champs yesterday to get a hands on look at the Fila Renno. I didn’t try it on, but at the price and with the use of a better material than many Nike or adidas models, this shoe is freaking beautiful! That’s not an exaggeration at all. The problem is Fila is marketing towards a consumer that still considers the brand an off market, low end product. Fila created this issue itself in the U.S. I wrote about that in this article:

In the international market I see this shoe becoming Fila’s Air Max 90. To be honest, the quality is much better. The manager at Champs noted that he likes suede that changes color when “I run my finger across the texture.” Here is the issue with the drop though:

  1. The marketing towards 18-25 year old demo is wrong
  2. The in-store merchandising demands Fila to step up and deliver marketing materials and apparel for the Spring.
  3. In-store merchandising for the Renno should also feature a QR Code or IG scan for the various colorways.
  4. I really like the bold colors, but a pure white model would crush it right now instead of this off-white version below and the white with colored heel tab at the top. Neither is bad, but I’d really like to see a Triple White option. Colorblocking is the only thing that could hurt Fila here. As much as I want an all white, I also want the basic white with “color” heel tab as well.
  5. If there isn’t an elevated version, which will be hard to do considering the quality of the materials and pricepoint, made available in the next drop, it’s a mistake.

What do you think about the Renno? When I first saw it on the Krost collab, I knew this was a win for the F… now that I say this it would be dope to actually see Fashawn, Fresno’s finest emcee in a limited run with Fila. Fas is one of the most underrated emcees in the business and Fila is entering that most underrated brand right now in my opinion.

Continuing the debut of FILA’s newest silhouette, the Renno unveils in seven new colorways for women and men. For women, the sneaker debuts in white, navy, and red; white, atomic blue, and yellow; gardenia and white; and pink. The men’s sneaker is revealed in red, navy, and white; atomic blue, prince blue, and fiery red; and silver gray, white sand, and white.

The latest innovation was reimagined from 70s footwear jogger culture, combining nods from FILA’s running and performance history with present-day streetwear aesthetics. For the first time ever, recycled leather is incorporated into a design as the main material with additional fabrics being nylon, suede, and ripstop mesh. Seen throughout the sneaker, an oval running track graphic surrounds the logos featured on the tongue, heel, and sockliner. Rounding out the model, the Renno is anchored by FILA’s Energized® midsole cushioning for added comfort and completed with a mesh-covered midsole detail for a unique pop.

The Renno initially debuted in February with a limited-edition collaboration with KROST, a New York-based streetwear label. The KROST x FILA Renno sold out on its launch day.

The new colorways are priced at $75 and available for purchase exclusively at www.FILA.com and select retailers. Additional colorways and collaborations will be unveiled throughout 2021.
