#9 Adidas Day One ADO Ultraboost ZG Clear Brown
images via Packer
What I think has become a forgotten project from adidas is the Day One collection. The pack featured some of the most streetwear ready performance apparel and hands down the best designed UltraBOOST to hit the market. The Zonal Primeknit upper features reinforced knit construction in areas to prevent the foot from shifting while running. The UltraBOOST 3/4 is a popular model, but as much as I’ve talked about a lack of design elements on the toebox, I couldn’t really drop the UB or the NMD in the top ten. I actually had the Black Japan NMD in this spot, but when I considered the detail and construction of this model I realized that a lot of people must have forgotten how this shoe is a technical trainer that has serious lifestyle potential. The suede tongue and pulltab the reinforced TPU heel counter and elastic bands along the eyelets both lock the footdown and allow for movement. The BOOST here is mushy and sloppy like on the NMD… adidas thought so much of this shoe (consumers forgot about it) that I think the design elements here influenced the upcoming Harden basketball shoe. It’s not cheap, but let’s be honest the Primeknit NMD doesn’t feature a sturdy heel counter or reinforced zonal areas throughout the upper. It doesn’t have a technical lacing system and it definitely doesn’t have a well crafted heel and tongue pull tab at 170.00 and 180.00 bucks. At 180.00 this model captures everything.
