Lox Boots… in the side panel of the F-14 Tomcat were two giant canisters. Those canisters were filled with liquid oxygen. The guys who handled and exchanged the LOX containers had to wear boots which could be removed quickly but were both rugged and ready for the flight deck. In fashion, the style of boot is labeled as a chukka in many instances, but whenever I see the cut my first thought is Lox Boots. I always wanted a pair, but the Airframe guys got first dibs. The shoe was lighter than a traditional steel toe 8-inch lace boot. I stayed jealous of my shipmates whenever they finished work and could sit down and use each foot to kick off the boots without moving a muscle. Those 12-hour shifts were brutal and anything that could be done easily was welcomed.
COMUNITYmade has partnered with made in the USA, in Cali, apparel brand Devium. The company is located in Truckee, Cali hence the name of the latest sneaker from COMUNITYmade. While there isn’t a steel toe in this pair and you don’t have to wear them to move liquid oxygen containers around, you can actually skate these kicks, but let’s be honest, why would you?
