The Store Re-opening Resale Report & Analysis (SRRRA) is a concise 4 month report built on a micro-set of data utilizing resale to gauge brand momentum & retail trends. I wanted to take a detailed look at the market for the months when stores began to open after the quarantine due to Covid-19 (July – October).

This report captures what is taking place in retail from a “person on the street” perspective. Too often, retail reports are written with the intent to impress readers with data that is sometimes a quarter behind the current trends. My intent here is to deliver more immediate feedback on retail and where both brands and retailers are headed in the sneaker industry.

Most popular shoes sold from September

Stores began opening in my region in July. I broke down each month’s sales and provided my micro-set of data. What I found is what I’ve always understood, resale can parallel retail.

Thanks for supporting arch. Purchasing this report allows arch to continue as the catalyst for conversation around the sneaker industry. It also gives you an inside track on what’s happening in resale and retail.

Highlights from each month (each report has a highlight section, below is one highlight from each SRRRA):

  • StockX, a third party online marketplace with no physical retail footprint, can garner the same amount of traffic as two of the most prominent chains, this is a problem for all of footwear retail, not just sneakers. | July 2020
  • 767 resale transactions during August, compared to 400 in July | August 2020
  • Nike Basketball is severely overpriced. It’s a conundrum however. The shoes are built on technical designs. If the price is decreased on the models, this implies that the tech isn’t valuable. Nike has to ask itself if they value sales over perception. | September 2020
  • Covid-19 is affecting logistics and this could have an effect on the holiday season if the delivery of footwear isn’t more efficient. | October 2020
