In the turbulent times of 2020, everyone seems to be looking for a way to protest or speak out; whether it be for equality, representation or justice. While I don’t mean for Women’s World Wednesdays to be political or some self-proclaimed crusade of social justice, I thought it was important to shine a light on women in music. It’s of course easy to talk about the big stars such as Beyonce or Rihanna, but for this series I want to focus on lesser known artists.

This Women’s World spotlight shines on Bonnie Banane.

Like Yendry, who I talked about in Women’s Word Wednesday 5, I discovered Bonnie Banane through Colors. While her music isn’t in English and I have no idea what she’s saying, her songs are very interesting, almost having a progressive feel to them. She doesn’t seem to have a full album out, but has several singles and a few EPs. My personal favorite song of hers right now is Limitles, which is the best example of the very progressive and interesting feel her songs have. Although her songs are in French and I can imagine not everyone being a big fan, I highly recommend checking her music out.
