In the turbulent times of 2020, everyone seems to be looking for a way to protest or speak out, whether it be for equality, representation or justice. While I don’t mean for Women’s World Wednesdays to be political or some self-proclaimed crusade of social justice, I thought it was important to shine a light on women in music. It’s of course easy to talk about the big stars such as Beyonce or Rihanna, but for this series I want to focus on lesser-known artists.

This Women’s World spotlight shines on YEИDRY.

YEИDRY is a new artist from the Dominican Republic. Her music isn’t in English, but you don’t have to understand what she’s saying to enjoy her music. As of right now she does not have a full album out, there are two singles: Barrio and Nena; both of which are very good songs. I discovered Yendry through the COLORS YouTube channel. COLORS is a channel that focuses on emerging artists and their music. The COLORS name is based on having artists perform in isolated rooms painted a certain color, hence the name.  Any fan of Latin music with a modern twist is going to enjoy her music, but as I said, you don’t need to be a fan of Latin music to appreciate the talent and beauty of the art. I personally look forward to whatever projects she’s planning in the future.
