From our Cotton + Corn collection. We took our tried-and-true sneaker silhouette and made a shoe with things that grow. A 100% cotton upper and a biobased sole derived from corn delivers comfort and durability. Altogether the NPC UK Cotton + Corn is the first ever 75% USDA certified bio-based shoe so you can feel good about what you’re wearing. This product is only available in whole unisex sizes, for tighter fit order a size down & for a roomier fit order a size up.

I’ve taken a keen interest in sustainability because I built my career on the ‘sneaker enthusiast’ side of the business. This meant that I was an active participant in purchasing multiple shoes simply because I liked them and wanted a different pair to rock with different styles. Sneaker culture is inherently rooted in consumption and consumption without consideration is a bad thing for the environment. Yet many sneakerheads never consider what their carbon footprint is. Actually, most people never consider what their carbon footprint is.

Reebok Grow built from sustainably grown castor beans, eucalyptus tree upper, and BLOOM algae foam.

All over social media the Reebok GROW is being shared and talked about, but in reality the same people touting the shoe and it’s features haven’t begun shifting their own closets so the celebration seems more like hypocrisy. Before you think that I’m in this category, I’ve taken it on myself to learn more about sustainability. I even took the long drive to the BLOOM factory to learn about what the company is doing to help make Mississippi beaches safer:

I’m making this point to state that the Reebok GROW isn’t arriving for another year, but if people are serious about thinking more about the environment with a sneaker purchase Reebok has had their NPC UK Cotton and Corn ready for purchase for a while and it only rings up at 90.00. My last two shoe purchases both featured recycled and upcycled construction. It’s one thing to be boisterous for clicks and sharing to appear invested in changing things, it’s another thing to actually be invested in learning and doing more.
