One of the best things about LinkedIn is the sense of community that is fostered around the sneaker industry. I discovered Sneakervision.com, a sneaker site owned and operated by a lady for the ladies and I’ve been an avid reader of the site since. Kenya Heard, the founder of Sneakervision, does an incredible job of highlighting women in the business and she does this in a way similar to ARCH and Housakicks, out of her own pocket (which is expensive). The accolades and thank yous are often slow to arrive, but we push forward.

This morning I’m browsing the site and I discover an interview with Bria Mallory owner of HNCOK Company. I of course made a joke about Will Smith’s Hancock super hero and then realized that what Sneakervision and Bria have just done is build a small ecosystem around a startup that I could help in a small way. One of the most difficult aspects for startup footwear is coverage. Paying the larger sites isn’t in the budget and running ads can pile up quickly. Kenya bought a pair of the kicks and took to doing her thing by taking pictures and sharing the information.

I’m following up by adding the metatag ‘new footwear companies’ and sharing it on my site. While I say that this is small, it isn’t. Google ranks websites higher in search when there are pingbacks and backlinks to the site. In other words, the more your site is shared organically on other sites, when people search for terms like woman owned shoe company, or new footwear companies, a site has a higher ranking. That’s partially why I’m sharing the site: http://www.hncokco.com/

The other reason is because it’s dope when people support something new and HNCOK may not be Will Smith, but who knows, maybe these pairs find their way to the Red Table Talks and the next thing you know HNCOK is flying high on superhero status. Take a moment to use the links to visit both Sneakervision and HNCOK Co.
