The LeBron 16 hasn’t really striked me as a one of the best designs of the year. It has released in several colorways that I thought about adding to the list, in particular the LeBron 16 King which featured a leopard painted fabric, but ultimately none of the styles resonated with me and made me stop and consider buying a pair. The only shoe that made me feel that it was both functional and stylish and eye catching was a shoe designed by women with some of the most amazing features on a shoe to release. The lacing system crosses at the heel inside the mouth of a lion.
The premium leather strap can be removed if you wanted to hoop in the shoes, but why would you? The shoe is stunning and the story behind it “Re-imagined by female designers, these draw inspiration from LeBron’s belief that “African-American women are some of the strongest people on earth.” makes this one of the only shoes on any list designed by women. While the Battleknit construction doesn’t allow for a lot of variety at the toebox which has been a pet peeve of mine, that heel counter is Versace level.
