There is a tendency for those involved in the sneaker community to become overinvested in just the sneakers and the process of buying, selling and trading. Right now, there are Instagram, TikTok and Twitter spaces complaining about the next drop from SNKRS, Confirmed or the new Puma app. While the marketing and sales of sneakers drive the machine of the industry, there are decisions being made inside of the buildings producing coveted collabs and general release product. Teams are combining to create something capable of making you spend a hard-earned dollar on footwear and apparel, that will give you the look garnering a knowing headnod from a peer.

Unfortunately, those conversations in the sneaker community are also about problematic releases from brands. Poor decision making has generated Black History Month collections from brands that have been demonized, but those convos happen after the fact. Those same sneakerheads who criticize don’t realize they are often attacking real people inside of those brands who may only get one opportunity to create something that can be career changing. The sneaker circles attack post problem, when the sneaker community could be more proactive and become a part of the teams inside which could prevent an issue from reaching the consumer.

How does this happen? How can a sneakerhead go from being a critic to an employee generating better ideas? Pensole Lewis College. Pensole has been working with New Balance for 6 years. They have placed “25 paid internships and 8 full-time hires as a result of this great partnership.” The next class is on the ticker and sneakerheads can apply to participate.
