UNDER ARMOUR TEAMS UP WITH NCAA CHAMPION TO EXPAND THE WORLD OF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Source: ALIYAH BOSTON IS TURNING HER SUCCESS INTO HER LEGACY

This post is referencing the news sites of the five major basketball brands, Nike, Puma, Under Armour, adidas and New Balance. This does not include Twitter feeds or social media posts. The reason social media isn’t referenced here is because those posts are not indexed and searchable. The post may capture information for that moment, but unless the post is followed up in a meaningful manner over and over and over again, the social media post becomes fleeting and about that one moment vs a news source which can be discovered a year from now creating a meaningful backlink for a website. Why is the backlink important? In the process of building websites, a backlink increases the rank of a site. Social media algorithms shift and change. They may empower for the moment, but the strength of sales strategies is in website design and engagement.

On a typical day the news sites of these five brands will be updated with information on new releases or programs being implemented by the brand. Taking the time to visit each of the sites, I was certain that one of the major hoop brands would have a rookie class announcement or some recognition of the WNBA, but Under Armour was the only brand to highlight any women’s hoopers. That player was NCAA Player of the Year Aliyah Boston. Fresh off of her national championship, Under Armour specified how they would continue to support women’s hoops:

Expanding her platform in the U.S. and internationally, Boston and Under Armour will help pave the way for current and future female basketball players by:

  • Launching the first-ever UA Next women’s basketball camp in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Hosted in Boston’s hometown, the camp will bring high school athletes access to equipment, coaching, and facilities later this Summer.

  • Introducing the latest UA Breakthru 3 Women’s Basketball Shoe this Fall. Built for women by women, the Breakthru have been a favorite of Boston’s since her AAU days – she rocked the Breakthru 2s throughout the 2022 season and most notably as she led her team to a highly anticipated championship win.

  • Working with Under Armour’s Human Performance and Design teams to provide ongoing insight into future iterations of basketball footwear for female athletes.

Annually, every brand eventually rolls out information on their signees:

With one of the highest rated women’s NCAA Tourneys in history and the historic winning of two championships by Dawn Staley, a first for any African American coach, and the WNBA Draft being the most viewed in history, this is a moment where every company should have amplified what they will be doing in women’s hoops. Kudos to Under Armour basketball for at least stepping up and sharing their work with Aliyah.
