Will FootLocker Provide Melody Ehsani Enough Runway to Matter?

FootLocker has named ME. as Women’s Creative Director, but this isn’t a clear cut hire. ME. is dope and she’s one of the hottest designers in the industry right now, but FootLocker has a long history of poor decisions when it comes to women. As a matter of fact, if you look at any FootLocker, Champs, or Footaction store, that isn’t a flagship, none of them actually carry women’s apparel. The women’s shoe sections are incredible small as well. Over the last ten years many of the locations that FootLocker has closed have been Lady FootLocker locations.

If the retailer doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to support ME. will this hire mean anything for the brand? If they are looking at private label… maybe. If they are working on creating limited collabs in the hope that it generates interest in the retailer, I’m not sure if this makes sense.

Sections in this post:
1. Melody Ehsani is dope.

3. Women are better shoppers
