New Balance’s silent assassin currently has a 3-2 lead over the 76ers. If things playout the way I think they will, he will encounter Nike’s super soldier Giannis Antetokounmpo (bet money that’s the last time that name shows up in this post), in the Eastern Conference Finals. The night of Game 5 New Balance ramped up their roll out by introducing a pack that was sold separately. The pack sold out immediately. The numbers of how many were produced weren’t given, but I used to have a means of guessing the number. I would look solely at the number of listings under a search on eBay. I have to include StockX now, but let’s see if we can figure this out and make an educated guess. For this search I used “New Balance Kawhi” for eBay. StockX was a lot easier.

eBay is not the force in resale it was. StockX now rules the roost which creates such a fractured resale marketplace that finding an actual number has to be based on both and that’s a problem. The same people listing the shoe on eBay could be listing them on StockX. That overlap requires a different approach, but I will do my best without having to call on my partner Tayib. Here is my formula for gauging the number of shoes released. It’s much different than Tayib’s more math based projections.

70% of shoes are purchased to be worn

30% of shoes are purchased to be flipped

This was how I used to look at resale a few years ago. The shoe was extremely limited and I’m almost positive New Balance produced a ridiculously limited number of kicks. This is guess work so take all of this with a grain of salt. Since it’s possible many of the listings on eBay are by the same person on StockX we have to take an average to use for our prediction on the number of shoes possibly made by New Balance.

Let’s get into some numbers as of right now: 5/9/2019

blank

eBay: 36 listings

OMN1S listed: 8 pair

OMN1S sold: 3 pair

Average price OMN1S: 400.00 taken from shoes that were not best offer accepted.

997S listed: 30 pair

997S sold: 5 pair

Average price on 997S: 260 + 269.99 = 529.99/2 = 265.00 This average was taken from shoes that were not best offer accepted.

StockX: 64 listings

997S listed: 31 pair

997S sold: 2 pair

Average sale price according to StockX: 825.00

OMN1S listed: 33 pair

OMN1S sold: 1 pair

Average sale price according to StockX: 451.00

Let’s break it down. There are 100 pair of shoes between StockX and eBay. I’m setting the overlap at 25%. This means that the average number of shoes available in resale right now are 75 total. Using our old formula of

70% of shoes are purchased to be worn

30% of shoes are purchased to be flipped

This means that the Kawhi Pack had about 250 pair made. We could make this more precise, but it may be that there were more of the 997S made since there are more listed on both eBay and StockX.

You can visit eBay and buy the Kawhi Pack from trusted sellers:
