adidas is partnering “with Allbirds, as we seek answers on our joint mission to create a sports-performance shoe with the lowest carbon emissions.” This is an admirable task, but is definitely worth a deeper dive. Allbirds is a company built on the mission of being a more sustainable option for footwear. The idea that adidas felt the need to collaborate with a much smaller brand sends a clear message that brands who want to grow and reach the conscious consumer will have to have at its core a message on sustainability.

I feel that there is obviously more under the surface here and this could be a move that leads to acquisition bringing both Reebok and Allbirds under the adidas umbrella. The added value to Allbirds is immediate. Allbirds is a very prominent brand. Although it has a billion dollar valuation, a quick survey in your own circle will establish that very few people have heard of the company.

I discuss how this wasn’t an overnight decision and that it is a mutually beneficial partnership that is good for the industry.
